MCV Kitchen Renovation
A much needed update at Malawi Children’s Village was the main kitchen which is the main food source for staff and students.
The previous kitchen was cramped, dark, and cooking was still being done by firewood which is slow and inaccurate and can cause harm to the environment and to workers in the kitchen. The previous kitchen also lacked storage, proper utensils, staff bathrooms or changing areas. See pictures of the ‘before’ kitchen attached at the very bottom.
Here is an excerpt from a letter written by one of the chefs in the kitchen. ‘To whom it may concern, My name is Austin Gondue, one of the full time workers at the kitchen. We have a very good looking modern kitchen. It is now accomodating all the necessary needs, such as changing rooms, side toilets. we have a new cooking system using gas which preserves our nature by not using the firewood. Keep brining modern things to our system.’
